CBBC-BIXS Overview
The Canadian Beef Breeds Council CBBC-BIXS collaborative initiative is developed to increase the demand for superior quality across the entire beef value-chain.

Participants in BIXS include: purebred and seed stock producers, cow-calf producers, feedlot operators, exporters, packers and other beef industry stakeholders.

CBBC, as a founding partner with the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association (CCA), builds on the value-chain platform established through the CCA Beef Information Exchange Program (BIXS). Participants are linked through a network to capitalize on the sharing of information...reducing risk, and leading to increased quality and profitability.

Protocols guide participation, access to data and sharing agreements. Registration details this.

Through agreements with breed associations and others in industry, quality information will be captured and shared (upon agreements) as it relates to:
  • Individual animals
  • Specific groups/purebred breeds
  • Branded beef programs
  • Genetics and genomics
  • Carcass details

Benefits of CBBC-BIXS include:

  • Option for a DNA trace back system
  • Identifies opportunities to supply niche markets
  • Enhanced profitability and competitiveness for producers
  • Breed Associations may develop breed specific benchmarks accessed through the CBBC portal
  • Data collected is translated into knowledge and made available through the CBBC portal via sector-wide benchmarking and reports
  • Custom search requests may be vetted and executed by the CBBC-BIXS Program Administrator. Learn more about these Value Added Services.

This CBBC-BIXS information flow system is complementary to the established CBBC Purebred Business Resources website. CBBC is working to improve the access to, and application of, management data (financial and genetic), specific to purebred beef cattle producers; CBBC-BIXS is the initiative and national data base to support this. To access purebred producer management tools and business resources visit: resources.canadianbeefbreeds.com

The CBBC-BIXS initiative is committed to avoiding value-chain initiative duplication and building on the successes and value chain initiatives already in place. This project is funded in part by the Canadian Cattlemen Market Development Council (CCMDC) and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Agricultural Flexibility Fund (AgriFlexibility).
